Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov on Wednesday in east China's Zhejiang Province, calling for closer economic cooperation between the two countries.

Congratulating Massimov on Kazakhstan's Independence Day, Xi said this year had witnessed quick development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Kazakhstan. Xi and Massimov were in Zhejiang to attend the second World Internet Conference in the township of Wuzhen.

Xi said the two sides, given their political trust and strategic coordination, should work out more substantial results of their cooperation to benefit the people.

Hailing the "solid foundation of and great prospect for" bilateral cooperation, Xi said China and Kazakhstan should conjoin the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative and the Bright Road strategy. He highlighted cooperation on production capacity, connectivity and trade liberalization.

During the meeting, Xi also called for more people-to-people exchanges, joint efforts to combat organized trans-border crime and closer multilateral security coordination with regional countries.

Echoing the Chinese president on the bilateral relationship, Massimov said the Kazakh side was actively implementing the consensus between President Nursultan Nazarbayev and President Xi to advance bilateral practical cooperation in an all-round way.

Massimov said Kazakhstan is working to align the Bright Road strategy with the Silk Road Economic Belt drive to boost cooperation with China on trade, production capacity and infrastructure.

Kazakhstan will support China's work to host the G20 summit next year, Massimov added.

On Tuesday, Massimov attended the 14th Shanghai Cooperation Organization prime ministers' meeting in Zhengzhou, central China's Henan Province.
